If you have a concrete floor with an epoxy coating, you may be wondering if it will last. The simple answer is this: If your epoxy floor coating was installed by Concrete Coating Systems, you can be confident that it will last a long time. Concrete Coating System has worked hard to develop a reputation for offering only the most professional service so that our epoxy floor coatings will last as long as possible. The durability of any epoxy floor coating is dependent on a number of factors, and if we install your epoxy floor coating, it will be installed according to the highest standards in order to maximize its longevity.
Longevity of Epoxy Floor Coating
First and foremost, it is impossible to place time frame on how long epoxy floor coatings last, because it depends how you use your floor. While some people will claim it lasts forever, this isn’t exactly true.
Epoxy floor coatings are hard, abrasion-resistant, and have high-impact strength. In residential locations, it is not uncommon for an epoxy floor coating to last three or more decades. The traffic and impact on industrial floor coatings, however, mean that those floor coatings take a more consistent beating. So industrial floor coatings often do not last as long. Still, epoxy floor coatings in any setting are stronger and more durable than virtually any other floor coating. It is not uncommon for epoxy floor coatings in factories and other industrial locations to last a solid decade.
To give you a better idea of how long you can expect your epoxy floor coating to last, here are some factors that affect the lifespan of such coatings:
- The condition of the concrete flooring: If your floor has a minimum strength of 3000 pounds per square inch or greater, your epoxy floor coating will last longer. If the PSI of your floor is under 3000 psi, densifiers may help to strengthen the concrete flooring and increase the longevity of your epoxy floor coating.
- Preparation of the floor surface: Concrete Coating Systems excels in surface preparation, so you can be assured that the epoxy floor coating will be applied to a floor that is free of debris, oil, cracks, and other imperfections.
- Most residential settings are not affected by traffic—there simply is not enough traffic in residences to affect the longevity of the coating. But if the coating is in an industrial or commercial setting with heavy equipment moving over the floor, longevity will be affected. But again, Concrete Coating Systems will maximize the longevity of your floor coating.
- Ultraviolet light exposure. Epoxy floor coatings do not respond well to UV light, so we do not recommend them for outdoor applications.
